The Newcomer Family
Jakob Jarmiin Nielsen and Ulla - board assistant in the bank, Landbobanken and high school teacher.
Both in their mid-thirties and parents to one child (Ringkøbing)
The family Breinholt Nielsen moved to Ringkøbing
Ulla teaches at the high school in Ringkøbing and Jakob recently started working as a board assistant at Ringkjøbing Landbobank. Their two-year-old daughter Marie is in kindergarten.
The family moved to Ringkøbing just a few months ago and until they find the house of their dreams, they have opted to rent an apartment.
Ulla and Jakob came to Western Jutland from Århus, where they had been living for quite a few years. Every morning they got into their cars and drove in separate directions - Jakob’s work was in Silkeborg and Ulla was in a training position in Randers and Marie was in day-care in Århus.
"This won’t work in the long run", they thought. When Ulla finished her training in Randers and started to look for a new job, the opportunity of creating a more harmonious everyday life came about. "Actually, we were very open in regards to where we wanted to live. The most important thing was that the distance between home and work was short for both of us”, Ulla says.
Both Ulla and Jakob grew up in small communities and continue to have a network of relatives in Western Jutland. Therefore, Western Jutland was on the list of possibilities. However, their main concern was whether they would be able to find jobs which were located close to each other.
This worry soon vanished like dew before the sun!
- "Ulla got a job at Ringkjøbing High School, so we put the house in Århus up for sale. It took a little time to sell the house and the very day we signed the sale agreement, I was at a job interview at Ringkjøbing Landbobank regarding a position as board assistant", Jakob says.
Now the family has moved to Ringkøbing, where Marie immediately started going to a Day care centre. Car number 2 has been sold as Jakob walks to work and Ulla takes the bike.
- To us, there are so incredibly many advantages about living in Ringkøbing instead of Århus. Our everyday lives have become more harmonious because work and free time are better linked. We are closer to our families and everything in general - a bike ride or a walk will take us almost anywhere we need to go”, Jakob finishes.
